Janette Morones

Local massage therapist enjoys helping ease people's pain BY KIM FOLI - The Daily Sentinel - When one steps through the door at Nacogdoches Massage, they are greeted by the sounds of soothing music and the sight of a warm smile. Janette Morones, owner, has been in business since May 2013, and she couldn't be happier with the way her career unfolded. Janette became a licensed massage therapist in April 2012.

After school, she worked at OmShanti Massage Studio in Nacogdoches, calling it the "best place one could ever start." After opening her business, at 2502 North Street, a storm blew the roof off. "Since then, walls were put up and an extra room was added — a blessing in disguise," she said. Janette loves her job because she loves being able to help people. "Massage was one of my choices as a career, but I had no idea l'd love to help people as much as I do," she said. "After having kids, you have this urge to protect, help and love so much more than you ever thought possible, and for me, it didn't stop there."

Janette said she's always wanted a career that would allow her to help people in pain. "The best way I could do that is the most nourishing way of all — through touch," she said. "When someone walks into the shop, I want to know what hurts, what can I do to help?" Obviously that's a part of her job, she said, but Janette said she really sympathizes with people "as if that person were family or a friend in need."

"The best part of helping someone is hearing it, not by a thank you, but through a sigh, a sense of relief, such as when a booboo gets softly touched by your mother's warm hand and instantly feels better — that's the feeling I search for as a massage therapist."

Janette has two children of her own, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. "I was born in California, and as I grew older, with only one child at this moment, we decided to pack our bags and move to a safer and better lifestyle," she said. That's when they found the Piney Woods of East Texas and beautiful little Nacogdoches through Janettes's brother who had settled here.

"Erik, my son was born in California, beach boy style with ball caps, and Layla, my daughter is native to Nacogdoches - cowgirl hats, dresses with boots, and she even says 'ya'll," she said. Janette said she loves living in Nacogdoches.

"I see us growing up in Nacogdoches, enjoying the new water park, the strolls around the trails and playgrounds," she said. "This town is family oriented with many events throughout the year, and I feel right at home."
